“While society is still moving too slowly on the issue of equal rights for women, much remains to be done to get out of a deep-rooted relegation. With this third creation, I wish to express the thoughts of seven women, of seven bodies, each cell of which carries the history and the heritage left by our mothers and grandmothers (…). The curtain rises to reveal a woman, in the distance, who evolves in a restricted space. As if divided into several fragments of the same story. The stage fills up little by little, while the sound universe comes to mix sounds of the everyday life and fragments of voices of the big opera arias. SUR TES ÉPAULES is part of PREMIER(S) PAS season 2, a unique creation and training program in Europe.
The Compagnie La Baraka, which is at the heart of the dancer’s transformation, is launching in 2019 the first edition of a unique program: Premier(s) Pas, co-developed with the Fondations Edmond de Rothschild. This program combines creation and highly professional training.
For this second edition, two new sponsors are supporting the program: Caisse des Dépôts and Fonds Régnier pour la Création.
Premier(s) Pas season 2 offers a springboard to 10 female artists, dancers and choreographers, selected from 350 candidates.
This new season, 7 laureates participate as performers in the creation SUR TES EPAULES by Nawal Aït Benalla and benefit from the training program for young choreographers.
The training program is also open to 3 other laureates: Veronika Akopova & Marina Gomes supported by Caisse des Dépôts; Amalia Salle “Grand Prix” Sobanova Dance Awards 2021.
