Karine Denis fell into ceramics as a child. At exactly 7 years old, in a Parisian workshop.
She soon realized that she would make a career out of it. She began training at Lycée, then entered the Duperré school in Paris. There, she met a Japanese teacher who introduced her to Raku, a demanding enameling technique that she has now been exploring for over 20 years in her workshop in Brittany.
Karine Denis sculpts ceramics. No utilitarian objects in her work, but creations in homage to the monoliths of her native Brittany: Conversations Minérales, Arbres Colonnes, Contenants à Poésie, evoking the gesture of writing through matter.
A member of Ateliers d’Arts de France, she exhibits regularly in France and abroad.
Training:
DSAA in Applied Arts, DMA in art ceramics, École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués DUPERRÉ – Paris BT in Applied Ceramic Arts – Lycée Renoir – Paris
“I’ve been practicing Raku since the end of my studies.
I love its physical intensity.
The elements of earth, water and fire are essential, as is inspiration from nature and the instinctive writing that guides my creative process. These sources enable me to move forward, to open up my artistic field, to reinvent myself for chosen locations.”
