Born in 1993 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Joana began her artistic training at the age of 6 with the Orquestra Pro Arte, where she played for 15 years.
This gave her the opportunity to play alongside some of the biggest names in Brazilian music, such as Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, and Egberto Gismonti. From 2009 to 2013, she worked with the Intrépida Trupe, a contemporary circus company in Rio de Janeiro, taking part in several shows, such as Preciosa Idade (2009) and Ao Vento (2012).
In 2014, Joana enrolled at the National School of Circus Arts in Rosny-sous-Bois for a year, then joined the National Center for Circus Arts in Châlons-en-Champagne in the 29th graduating class, with which she performed in the graduation show Atelier 29, directed by Mathurin Bolze of the MPTA company.
In 2018, she created, with Antonin Bailles and Leonardo Ferreira, the Groupe Zède, which presented its first show, TRÊS, in 2019. In 2019 and 2020, she worked as a performer in the show La Main de la Mer, directed by Gaëtan Lévêque.
Between 2020 and 2023, she performed in the theater production Little Nemo, directed by Emilie Capliez, co-director of the Centre Dramatique National de Colmar. She is currently performing in the show Ikuemän, directed by Rafael de Paula of the Cie du Chaos; in the show Dialogue, by the ISI company, directed by Lucas Struna, and in the show Brame, directed by Fanny Soriano of the Libertivore company. In 2023, she is working with the Lichka company on a duet between an author and a circus performer (call for projects from the DRAC Hauts-de-France). Joana is also working as an outside eye for the show currently in creation, Les Caribéennes, by the MetisG’wa Company.
